Milkyway galaxy from Ranikot fort – Pakistan
Ranikot Fort is located in Sindh about 250Kms from Karachi. I went once for a day trip and loved the place. I found that was no light pollution in that area so it should be perfect for #Astronomy and #Astrophotography. I like to travel and love to stay up at night observing galaxies and nebulas. In Oct 2015, I led a group of 50+ Astronomy enthusiasts from Karachi Astronomers Society (aka KAS) to Ranikot Fort to teach them Astronomy and Astrophotography while giving them a practical experience of the night sky and a memorable experience of lifetime.
I planned the whole trip (Trekking and Astronomy sessions throughout night) that included trekking to a fish pond about 5 KMs away from Mirikot Fort (where we stayed night). It was a bit hot during the day as it was October but as the night progressed, the temperature dropped and winds increased.
We had the following sessions
- Basics of Astronomy (Exploring the universe)
- Sky Tour
- Observation of planets and galaxies
This post is about the photos so I am posting some of the shots.

Can you identify a fuzzy plate like structure on the top left of the above Photo? That is the Andromeda Galaxy. How does it looks like? See below 🙂 Shot by me during same night.
